Summer Portraits at the Cornell Botanic Gardens

I've always loved summertime, as chilly winter days fade to memory and we spend more and more time out in the garden, watching thunderstorms roll in and counting fireflies at dusk. Long days of baking are replaced by afternoons by the grill or at the beach, exploring new hikes and visiting with family and friends. Though the summer of 2020 was different from any we've ever experienced, and was largely passed just as a family of three taking masked walks, eating frozen custard at the park & enjoying the occasional socially distanced visit with friends, there were also some wonderful opportunities to celebrate with couples planning weddings and families celebrating new milestones throughout pandemic life. One of my favorite portrait sessions from 2020 was from the summer evening I spent with Katie and David in Ithaca, NY, visiting the Cornell Botanic Gardens (one of my favorite spots!) and the campus area too.

We stretched our time together as the sun set over the hills and only stopped making portraits as night fell. While Covid has delayed (and delayed and delayed) so many wedding day plans, including theirs, I'm so excited that we'll be able to celebrate their marriage next summer with all of their loved ones together. This past year has seen so much difficulty and heartache, that having something so beautiful to look forward to on the calendar is reason to celebrate in and of itself.Katie and David, I'm so grateful we were able to capture these portraits for you, and make something beautiful together during such a difficult season. Here's looking forward to the day when we'll be able to celebrate together once again <3
